Team meetings can occur before or after practice.
The correct stride is very important in baseball. If you’re right-handed, use your left leg to pick it up a bit when the pitch is released. If you generally use your left hand, your right leg will be the one to focus on. Push your feet forward a foot or so to increase your momentum as the ball is coming toward you. Younger and smaller players should stride somewhat less, maybe 9 inches.
Base Coaches
When you’re running to bases, don’t ignore the base coaches and their signs. Remember, your base coaches have a full view of the field. Focus on the bases when you are running, not on the ball. Follow them with your eyes. If you see them put up the stop sign, then immediately run to the closest base. If they tell you go to, sprint.
Keep an eye on the batter when you are in the outfield. Right-handed batters hit more balls to left field. Alternatively, a left handed batter will generally hit towards the right field. This knowledge can better prepare you for what might occur in a game.
Take the time to break your baseball glove in long before practice season starts. A fresh glove will allow you to minimize errors on the field. Get a ball and throw it into the glove. Leather softener should be used to break the leather in. Hit the weave of the glove over and over with your fist. When you break your glove in, you will feel more comfortable fielding.
