TIP! Consider shifting your weight to your back foot when you need to maximize the power in your batting stance. Tighten your thigh muscle and shift your weight to your right foot if you are a right-handed batter.

As a coach, you must keep player enthusiasm high. Enjoy rewards such as pizza parties or team building activities. Also, keep in mind that baseball is just a game, and that the stakes are not that high.

Normally, a team will warm up during batting practice for a good ten minutes of stretching and throwing, then move on to a longer period of fielding and hitting drills. This is followed by five minutes of running bases, then ten minutes of team defense and situation drills. Finish your practice with 10 minutes of drills for certain positions and then a cool down. Team meetings can occur before or after practice.

The correct stride is very important in baseball. If you’re right-handed, use your left leg to pick it up a bit when the pitch is released. If you generally use your left hand, your right leg will be the one to focus on. Push your feet forward a foot or so to increase your momentum as the ball is coming toward you. Younger and smaller players should stride somewhat less, maybe 9 inches.

Base Coaches

TIP! Use your mitt to block the sun if the baseball heads your way but the sun blinds you. Keeping your glove above the level of your eyes will block the brightness, and still allows you to keep an eye on the ball.

When you’re running to bases, don’t ignore the base coaches and their signs. Remember, your base coaches have a full view of the field. Focus on the bases when you are running, not on the ball. Follow them with your eyes. If you see them put up the stop sign, then immediately run to the closest base. If they tell you go to, sprint.

TIP! If you wish to get more from a stretch when you’re on first base, your foot should be beneath where your throwing hand is on base. Reach toward the ball as you step with the other foot, making sure that one foot remains on the base at all times.

Keep an eye on the batter when you are in the outfield. Right-handed batters hit more balls to left field. Alternatively, a left handed batter will generally hit towards the right field. This knowledge can better prepare you for what might occur in a game.

TIP! Always remember that sometimes you need to make sacrifices when batting. This means you’re a team player.

Take the time to break your baseball glove in long before practice season starts. A fresh glove will allow you to minimize errors on the field. Get a ball and throw it into the glove. Leather softener should be used to break the leather in. Hit the weave of the glove over and over with your fist. When you break your glove in, you will feel more comfortable fielding.

TIP! Include sprinting in your warm-up drills. Baseball has much to do with sprinting.
